Grimmski baby!

Talk about music surprises - yesterday I was completely blown away by an excellent slovenian darkish pop rock band :grimmski. Not much of a band performance but the music was amazing. First impressions can be deceiving:the lead singer seems like this baby face shy boy but only until he opens his mouth. I think I'm not exaggerating when I say his deep strong voice could dig a hole. Mushu referred to him as The voice, while Betty, JinX and me were busy being amazed. Not to mention quite talented back vocalist.

I loved all the songs, especially Obsession, Necromancer and Blackout. Without doubt they are original and yes I want to hear more. Besides their own songs they made quite decent Doors and Moloko covers. However the Rolling Stones: Anybody seen my baby was completely redundant and Depeche mode cover didn't meet the Depeche mode criteria.

Honestly I don't know why they bothered with covers in the first place since their music is actually excellent. Best slovenian dark band I heard since Silence. By the way - their album Random Saviour is available on their website for free download.

They can't sleep @ night

Remember how I went on about this young slovenian indie band We can't sleep at night that totally caught me by surprise? Yup, the lads are still very much alive and kicking - not only that they released their first album.

Hopefully it will soon be in my hands, because it can't be bought in stores but has to be ordered by email. 6 EUR? Seriously, I'm sooooo having a few copies! Plus first albums tend to be my favorite ones, probably because of the anticipation.

If you're curious about the band you can either check the mp3's on their website or see them live next Thursday @ Metelkova mesto. I'm definitely going!

La la la lasagna

Lasagna is one of those rather fancy dishes that almost everybody likes. It seems quite complicated to make even though it in fact is much easier to make than pizza. The good thing about lasagna is you can stuff it with pretty much everything you like (except maybe fruit) - from meat, mushrooms to cheese & spinach.

So basically all you need is:
  • lasagna noodles/"sheets"
  • spinach
  • sour cream
  • cheese (possibly mozzarella or Parmesan)
  • garlic
  • butter
  • milk
  • flour
  • tomato sauce.

After you've prepared the spinach the way you like (e.g. on butter with garlic and sour cream), prepare the beshamel sauce. (butter, spoon of flour, milk, also Parmesan can be added). Now all you gave to do is to play a tetris game of layers with spinach and beshamel sauce, adding a bit of cheese to every layer.

Extra cheese/sour cream on top is always delicious and you can add some tomato sauce for more diverse taste. After approx. 20 minutes or so your lasagna should be ready for date with your stomach. Piece of cake or what?

Fancy hospital shoes

It is quite usual for a woman to have a shoe fetish. She can already own dozen pairs of shoes and still legitimately buy a dozen of new ones, because she "doesn't have that particular model/color yet." Being a proud owner of few pairs of sneakers, sandals and boots I am realizing I am actually quite conservative when it comes to shoes. I prefer them simple, preferably black & white and without unnecessary glam & glitter.

Now I've already gotten used to all the hideous silver/golden/glittery sandals/sneakers that seemed to be popular lately (even though I can't help wondering what would happen if they clicked the hills together three times....) I even got used to those weirdish hybrids between sport shoes and sandals.

What I can't understand is this new fashion of fancy hospital shoes. Do women really want to look like housewives or funky nurses from 60's?

Here's what I'm thinking: If they look like they're made for people with walking disabilities I'm pretty sure that's what you'll get if wearing them. But seriously.

Every end has a start

My mom (aka the smartest women on Earth) recently told me that every time something in your life ends, you make space for something new to happen. And it's absolutely true in many ways besides finishing a bottle of wine and making space for prime time entertainment :)

Obviously April is my month of various endings, so naturally May will be the month of new beginnings. I better start following my own advice to take chances & make some changes. So instead of choosing the smoothest way I decided to take a step into the uncertainty and do something I longed for quite some time.

I know I'm gonna make it, simply because there is no other way.

Wear sunscreen

After yesterday's "reality" talk show all I can say is OMFG (I'm definitely sticking to my no TV policy). So much nonsense, so little time... The only thing that came to my mind is to share Baz Luhrmann's tips for the future - wear sunscreen :

Happy B-day

To our little planet. And if you feel like doing something beyond recycling, I recommend watching this video and reconsidering the brand of cosmetic products you buy:

My favorite positions

Sometimes you "plan" things in your life but don't manage to find time for them. It was like this with me and yoga until the time was finally right for me and the opportunity to start taking yoga classes just magically appeared. At first I didn't take it very seriously but eventually it became a part of my everyday life, a new morning routine.

After a while I was amazed by how great I felt on so many levels and how much easier it was for me to manage stress. However yoga is not suitable for everyone - namely depressed and introverted people might have problems when subconsciousness starts to work its way to consciousness. Nevertheless there are great lessons to be learned, like not pushing yourself over the limit, taking time for things and accepting the change as part of life.

But of course there are also less deep things about yoga that give you pleasure. Like being able to do these cool positions with your body (photos by Maabee):

Nothing.

Bleeding insecurities of today
Feed blinded hopes of tomorrow,
Carving through your stomach a giant wormhole
Of nothing yet everything you claim to be.

Mindless thoughts exploding in your head
Keep on evoking same old questions
You buried on hopeless shores of nothing
While gently diving into the silence.

Restless souls seek consolation
In overwhelming arms of uncertainty
While pain again reminds you of life
That gives you nothing, nothing to lose.
